Just two days after a fire completely destroyed a home in Auasi last Friday, another home was razed by fire early Sunday morning in the village of Matuu.

The Fire Department was called around 3 a.m on Sunday, and two fire trucks from the Fagatogo Station finally arrived after 4 a.m., with only three firemen, according to the owner of the two-storey structure, Anthony Tuiolosega.  He told Malama News that by the time the fire trucks arrived, the structure was already completely engulfed in flames, and he and some neighbors then helped man the one fire truck hose with the three firemen.

According to Tuiolosega, the first floor housed a business rental tenant, called CES, or Central Equipment Shop, which sold and serviced office equipment and computers.  The second floor is where Anthony Tuiolosega and his family lived.

No one was injured in the blaze, and the destroyed building was estimated at around $50,000, not including the office equipment and contents downstairs.

Part of the next door home belonging to Anthony’s late parents, Tagaloa and Nia Tuiolosega, also burned from the fire.

The displaced homeowner said at about 10:30 Sunday morning, the fire rekindled and had to be put out again.

Anthony expressed his family’s gratitude to the neighbors who came and helped try to put out the blaze.
