Governor Togiola Tulafono announced this week that he has signed into law a bill called the Notary Act of 2007, which beefs up the Notary rules and procedures and brings American Samoa up to par with the rest of the world.
The new law improves the notary public rules and procedures, defining duties and responsibilities, and providing sanctions for notaries public to assure the integrity of documents essential to commercial and legal transactions.
The governor said in the past, local laws provided very little guidance in e duties and responsibilities of notaries.
