The LBJ Tropical Medical Center has been awarded additional funding of close to $146,000 from the center for Medicare and Medicaid, according to a CMS announcement last week.
The federal agency is funding a total of $12.1 million for all U.S. Insular areas for fiscal year 2008. American Samoa’s share of this amount is $630,000 for fiscal year 2008, and the same for fiscal year 2009.
According to LBJ CEO Patricia Tindall, American Samoa is eligible to participate under a 65 to 35 match basis. In other words, LBJ has to come up with 35 percent of the program costs in order to be eligible to receive the federal program funding.
