And donations to the Arts Festival continue to roll in as the 10th Festival of the Pacific Arts is right around the corner. Yesterday, congressional candidate Aumua Amata presented a $6,000 donation on behalf of herself, the American Samoa-based tuna purse seiner vessels and the American Tuna boat Association.
During the presentation of the check, Amata noted the importance of the local community doing their share to help ensure the success of the festival. She said that the donation is a joint effort with U.S. purse seiners based in American Samoa, which spend millions of dollars in the local economy through their purchase of fuel, supplies, food repairs, and much more. Amata said that “when they're not out fishing, most of the crews live right here on island so they are a strong and vibrant part of the economy, but they sometimes get overlooked."
Arts festival executive director Lauti Simona and Festival organizing committee co-chair Leala Pili were both present during the brief presentation held at the Yacht Club in Utulei to accept the donation. Simona thanked Amata and her partner contributors and ensured them that their donation will go a long way in assisting the committee to prepare for the festival.
Today, Triple S Gas Station in Tafuna made an in-kind donation of $1,000 worth of gasoline for festival vehicles. Owners Mr. and Mrs. Sua Carl Schuster made the presentation this afternoon on behalf of the family business.
