The installation ceremony for American Samoa Community College President, Dr. Seth Galeai, was held this past Saturday at the ASCC lecture hall. Dr. Galeai was announced as the new college president earlier this month, after former president Dr. Adele Satele-Galeai stepped down for health reasons.
Among those in attendance were ASCC administration, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the government. The Board of Higher Education and leaders of the government congratulated Dr. Seth on his new journey, and advised him to put his best efforts forward for the college and our community. The Chairman of the Board of Higher Education, Uta Dr. Laloulu Togailelagi, advised Dr. Galeai to never forget our culture and its importance in making decisions for our young people, and the community at large. Secretary of Samoan Affairs, Mauga T. Asuega, was also present at the ceremony, and on behalf of Governor Togiola Tulafono, he reminded Dr. Galeai to have faith in the Lord as he embarks on the journey ahead of him.
Dr. Galeai joined ASCC in 1990 when he was assigned as director of the American Samoa Teacher Education Program. In 1998 he became the college’s Dean of Instruction, and in 2004 he was appointed as vice president of ASCC. During his acceptance speech, Dr. Galeai said he will strive to honor the traditions and values of ASCC by working to achieve the mission, vision and the needs of the students and community.
