Governor Togiola Tulafono said on his weekly radio program last Saturday that he will be appointing a task force to look into the dramatic rise on food prices, particularly rice, after he received reports that the price on rice spiked over the last couple of weeks.
Governor Togiola said the appointed task force will review the price of rice and other goods to find out if there are unfair business practices going on to drive up the prices.
The governor told his radio audience that the government cannot regulate the prices of goods, but he will use existing laws to pursue the case in court if it is found that businesses are driving up prices.
