Out of the ten categories of food items that were put out to bid by the School Lunch Program, nine have been awarded to local companies. Between GHC Reid, Islands Choice, Pacific Sales and Tautua Mo Oe, over $2 million worth of contracts were awarded.
Chevalier, out of New Zealand, was the only off-island company that received a contract in the bidding process. They will be supplying seasonal produce.
Juice is the only category that is being put off until a later date, because according to Department of Education officials, there is still enough of a supply in stock for the first part of the coming school year.
