It’s official.  Senate President Lolo Moliga will NOT be running for governor in this year’s gubernatorial election.   Lolo cited that there are now already four candidates with ancestral ties to the  Manuatele, and his candidacy would only further embolden divisiveness which he said unfortunately, is still visible today.  “My candidacy will only fuel this already very hostile and volatile cultural condition,” said Lolo.

In a press release statement today, Lolo said as much as it pains me greatly to sacrifice my political aspirations, and the commitment of many who have expressed support and belief in my humble desire to set a new path for the territory’s future, I cannot in good conscience, compromise my personal values, holding the preservation of the family’s integrity intact, over my selfish political desires, although convinced that I could be the effective change agent generating pervasive benefits for the people of American Samoa.”

Malama TV talked with senate president Lolo today about his announcement of not running.

Lolo had announced in April this year, his intention to run for governor in the November elections.  With his withdrawal, three gubernatorial tickets are now official.  They are incumbents Togiola Tulafono and Faoa Ipulasi Sunia, Afoa Leulumoega Lutu and Velega Savali, and recently announced Utu Abe Malae and Nua Saoluaga.
