Tile Tuala Tamaalelagi of Laulii is heading a group of carvers who will create a sculpture from a tree for the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts. Tile is the noted artist who crafted the mosaic for the Laulii CCCAS. The details of the art piece to be created for the festival are not known, but the artists will most likely reveal the specifics during a scheduled press conference this Thursday.
For their project, the carvers have been searching for the ideal tree suitable to create their art piece. They were in luck when a family from Leone decided to donate a tree that they had planned to get rid of. The tree was uprooted and transported to the local museum by several companies that volunteered their time and equipment.
According to arts festival co-chair and arts council director, Leala Pili Elisara, the carvers plan to begin working on their project this week and it will take about two weeks to clean the tree before it is ready for sculpting. Leala added that they are looking for several helpers to assist the carvers in cleaning the tree and any volunteers would be greatly appreciated.
