LBJ Hospital is now issuing a newly designed hospital identification card. Patients were previously issued a green card that contained information such as the cardholder’s name, village, and hospital number. The new ID card not only provides this information, but also includes a photo of the person to whom the card is issued.
According to LBJ’s general counsel, Terry Lovelace, the photo feature was put in place to ensure that the patient being treated is the actual person whose name is on the hospital ID card. He said this will help avoid medical errors that result from the dangerous practice of lending hospital ID cards to someone else.
The new card is free for those who bring in their old green card for exchange. Those who do not have a green hospital ID card may purchase the new card for $5, which is the same price that was charged for the old cards.
Lovelace also reminds the public that a new visitation policy went into effect on June 1 and provides new visitor hours for all wards as well as restrictions on caretakers. The policy was implemented in response to complaints received by patients and LBJ staff about disturbing noises and unnecessary traffic.
