Maoputasi District number 10 faipule, the honorable Vaitoa Hans Langkilde, has written an official inquiry with Chief election Officer Soliai Tuipine, regarding the district designation for the village of Satala.
According to Vaitoa, the American Samoa Code states that Maoputasi District number 10 consists of the villages of Satala, Atuu and Leloaloa. However, in this year’s voter list, only Atuu and Leloaloa are listed in the district. Vaitoa said he has been advised by election officials that residents of Satala are to register and vote in the village of Pago Pago.
The Maoputasi lawmaker also noted that some of the Satala residents are now listed in either Atuu or Leloaloa.
Vaitoa pointed out that Satala has its own defined village boundaries within the Maoputasi district, and he is concerned that unless the error is corrected, it may have serious implications and difficulties for them as an electoral voting district.
