By Malama TV News Wednesday, May 28, 2008 Congressman Faleomavaega Eni is hoping that Congress will have enough votes to override a veto by President Bush of the war spending bill that includes provisions for minimum wage studies on American Samoa and CNMI. President George Bush this week threatened to veto the war spending bill if passed by congress. A provision has been added in the bill to have the U.S. Department of Labor conduct studies on the impact of the escalating minimum wage levels in CNMI and American Samoa, and how it affects the local economies. The congress has asked the Department of Labor to also include in their report how the livelihoods of workers are being affected, the cost of food, energy and other commodities. Congress is also looking at how the profitability of private businesses is being impacted by the escalating minimum wage levels. |
